Homework Assignment

Play all the natural notes -- notes A - G -- in four different positions. Spend time learning each position so that you can find the one that is best for you. If you're up to the challenge, try singing the same note with your voice; it will help determine which position is best for your voice.

To help you get started, below is a list of the various places on the fretboard where each note can be played. If you're having trouble understanding the logic, be sure to share your questions with the ActoGuitar community.

A note

• frets on the sixth string: 5th; 17th
• frets on the fifth string: open; 12th
• frets on the fourth string: 7th; 19th
• frets on the third string: 2nd; 14th
• frets on the second string: 10th; 22nd
• frets on teh first string; 5th; 17th

B note

• frets on the sixth string: 7th; 19th
• frets on the fifth string: 2nd; 14th
• frets on the fourth string: 9th; 21st
• frets on the third string: 4th; 16th
• frets on the second string: open; 12th
• frets on the first string; 7th; 19th

C note

• frets on the sixth string: 8th; 20th
• frets on the fifth string: 3rd; 15th
• frets on the fourth string: 10th; 22nd
