Confussion with the frets?

Question Confussion with the frets?

Are the frets the spaces between the metal bars, or are they the metal bars themselves? One of the first lessons stated that the frets are the spaces between the metal bars, but a later video mentioned placing fingers just below the fret (metal bar). Now I'm a little confused.

Technically, the frets are the metal bars,

The spaces are somtimes refered to as frets because, for example, to play the third fret, you would press on the third space, making the string touch the third metal bar.

That's how I understand it anyway,

hope that helps
