ok well, since you linked to the deal of the day i dont know the specific compressor you were looking at, BUT, My thought would be your looking for more of an effect pedal, rather than a compressor.
A compressor is going to make each note you pick some more even, but its not gonna add much to your guitars sound which is most likely what your looking for.
Its really up to you what kind of pedal to get, its like if the pedal makes a sound that you like, get it. Id definitely recommend going to a local shop first and trying a few different pedals out tho, so you know what your buying. Personally i just recently picked up the "synth Wah' From DigiTech, this is a pretty sweet pedal if you want to get a whole bunch of different synth sounds. or if you want the 'classic rock' distortion go with the Boss DS-1. Both of the aforementioned pedals i own and can attest to their quality. BUT like i said go to a shop and get something that you like the sound of.
