I started out with, and still prefer to play, an acoustic, after a while struggling with barre chords i bought an electric and it is much easier to play barre chords on.
I think it depends on what you want to play, i like folk,so the acoustic is best for what i like to play, it sounds to me with your musical interest an electric would be better, but thats just my opinion, in the end it's up to you.
